Google Discontinues the use of Browser History for Ad Targeting
In surprising news, Google has announced that the company will no longer use your browser history for ad tracking due to uprising privacy concerns related to advertising methods. For years, Google’s business model has been simple. Users browse the internet, Google tracks your activity, and sells the data to advertisers.
But now, Google is wanting to change their business model to focus on groups of users instead of individuals. David Temkin, Director of Product Management, Ads Privacy, and Trust at Google states, “People shouldn’t have to accept being tracked across the web in order to get the benefits of relevant advertising. And advertisers don’t need to track individual consumers across the web to get the performance benefits of digital advertising.”
Google is already testing new API’s with advertisers and users should see new privacy controls within Chrome related to these new policies in April 2021.
